What is the difference of Closed and Ordinary Floor Decks?

Beenew floor decking roll forming machine can be designed to form closed floor decks or ordinary open type floor decks. So, what is the difference between these two types?

Compared to ordinary open floor decks, the advantage of closed floor decks is that their cross-section is plate-shaped. When the floor deck is closed, it should be arranged according to the span. When connecting to the steel beam, the bottom of the deck should be flat and there should be sufficient actual area in contact with the steel beam. Therefore, it can be laid directly without further treatment (open decks need to be trimmed at the supplementary board to avoid voids with the steel beam).

Open floor decks should be closed at the ends to prevent concrete from leaking out of the openings at the bottom during pouring. In contrast, closed floor decks do not require end closure due to their web being closed.

Because the bottom of the closed floor deck is flat, it can fully integrate with the top flange of the steel beam whether it overlaps or not, and the top surface of the steel beam's flange does not need to be coated with fireproof paint. Open steel decks have cavities between them and the steel beams, which need to be filled with shoulder fillers.

The closed floor deck completely replaces the lower reinforcement, reducing the amount of on-site reinforcement, decreasing the labor required on-site, and speeding up the construction process. At the same time, the design of the original lower reinforcement can be eliminated, providing more space for wiring and conduit installation in the flooring.
